Although this is short notice, here are two Referee courses being offered just down the road in Whittier this Sunday, November 17. We know that a few folks have asked when an Intermediate Referee course will be offered, so here it is! At the same time, since we have a venue, we'll be doing the Regional Referee Companion course.

Description
The purpose of this course is to train Regional Referees in all aspects of refereeing and develop skills that will allow the referee to officiate soccer matches that are more physically demanding and challenging under the IFAB Laws of the Game (LOTG) and AYSO National Rules & Regulations.
COURSE PRE-REQUISITES:
Candidates are required to have completed the Regional Referee Certification, either the Full In-Person Regional Referee Course or the Regional Referee Online Course + Regional Referee Online Companion In-Person Course Bundle prior to enrolling in the course.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES:
-Understanding tactics and strategies found in 12U matches
-A better understanding of referee and assistant referee duties & responsibilities
-Emphasize referee team work
-Utilize the diagonal system of control
-Communicate effectively and correctly
-Increase knowledge of Offside
-Identify offences and all forms of misconduct
-Understand and manage interactions between coaches, players, and officials
-Understand the AYSO National Referee Program and the Observation Process
-Become adept with AYSO Rules and Regulations and the AYSO Structure
Students should memorize all of the Direct and Indirect Kick Fouls (DFKs and IFKs), Cautions (Yellow Card), and Send Offs (Red Card) as they will be on the test.

Regional Referee Companion + In-Person Course 20241113-01136

COURSE DESCRIPTION
-This is the in-person companion course intended to be taken by entry-level referee volunteers after they completed the Regional Referee online course.
-This course will provide the referees with additional information, practical training, and experience to help them acquire the confidence to start their referee careers in AYSO.
PRE-REQUISITES
-The requirements to be certified as a Regional Referee are:
-Minimum Age: 12 years old
-Registration as an AYSO volunteer
-Safe Haven Certification
-CDC Concussion Awareness Training
-Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training
-SafeSport Training
-Livescan: If required by law
-Completion of the Regional Referee Online Course
TEACHING OBJECTIVES
-Confirm completion of the online Regional Referee Course. This will be accomplished quickly by using the questioning technique.
-Show the students the soccer field components (if a soccer field is available)
-Provide the students practice so they can learn and demonstrate the proper use of the whistle; correct signals for referees and assistant referees; proper positioning for referees and assistant referees; and simple communication techniques to be used in working with the coaches in support of the Stewards of the Game principles.
-Provide the students with the opportunity to ask questions about refereeing and the concepts presented in the online module and this course.
-Provide the students with support and confidence that they will be ready to go out on the field and referee.
Students must complete the online portion (Regional Referee Companion Online Course) prior to attending this in-person portion of the course.
NOTE: To enroll in MatchTrak and give your team Referee Pomits Credit you MUST complete all the Required Certifications as described on our website.
